>Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg has quietly established himself as superb F1 racing driver, somehow managing to stay below the radar. There are very few reports about Rosberg who is the son of a previous formula1 world champion, Keke Rosberg. So, is it in his blood to be a racer?

Rosberg has championed his way from go-carts to Formula BMW. He drove Formula 3 for his father’s team- Rosberg and won the race at La Mans. While BMW was sponsoring engines to Williams F1 team, Rosberg was offered to test drive for Williams-BMW.

In 2006 he became one of the official drivers for Williams-BMW, teaming up with Mark Weber. Rosberg never did well in 2006-2008 with Williams but things did improve in 2009. He scored in 10 out of 17 races and finished 7th on the championship the end of the season.

In 2010 he joined up with Mercedes GP Formula1 teaming up with Michael Schumacher who had made a comeback after three years. At the end of the 2010 season, Rosberg scored 142 points compared to Schumacher’s 71 points and he finished the season with three podium finishes.

2010 was the year that Rosberg had silence his critics due to his improvement on the track and especially for out pointing Michael Schumacher, he finished seventh overall. In 2011 things did not go as well for Mercedes, as both Rosberg and Schumacher had worse results than the previous years. The Mercedes could set good laps at times but did not have the ability to set constant good lap times during the race. He finished 9th position at the end of the season which was 4 positions ahead of his teammate, and finished 7th overall.

2012 was by far a better year for Rosberg as he set pole position and won his maiden Grand Prix in the Chinese Grand Prix. The Mercedes did not have the pace during the rest of the season and points were hard to come by. He finished 9th overall, but setting pole and capturing his first ever win showed that he has the endurance, the ability, nerves and determination to win a Grand Prix.

Mercedes AMG have revealed their new W04 F1 racing car. The car was put to the test at the pre season testing on the Barcelona circuit and at the close of the practice session, Nico Rosberg had set the fastest lap time followed by Fernando Alonso and Louis Hamilton. Once again all the attention was off Rosberg, instead the media focus was all on Hamilton.

It will be very interesting to watch what qualifying times Rosberg sets on Saturday for the opening race of the season in Melbourne, Australia.
